Welcome to Measure Map Online

What Measure Map Online does, the two places you work in, and where to go next.

Measure Map Online measures areas and distances on the map, in your web browser. You outline a field, a roof, a plot or a building site on satellite imagery, and the app tells you its area, its perimeter and the length of every side. Everything you draw is saved in a project that you can come back to, share with other people, price, export and embed in your own website.

What you can do with it#

  • Measure areas and distances. Draw polygons for areas and polylines for lengths, and read the results live as you place each point. See drawing polygons and drawing polylines.
  • Mark places. Drop spots with a name, an icon and pictures. See points and spots.
  • Draw precisely. Place points with the crosshair, snap to what is already drawn and keep lines at 45° steps. See the crosshair and pins.
  • Edit, style and organise shapes. Move, insert and delete points, split, join and subtract shapes, cut holes, add buffers and grids, and put shapes in groups. See editing shapes and groups.
  • Work faster. The magic button switches between drawing tools, and  Find in imagery outlines buildings and fields in the imagery for you. See the magic button and finding things in the imagery.
  • See official boundaries. Show cadastral parcels in over 60 countries and turn a parcel into a polygon in one step. See cadastral parcels.
  • Bring in and take out data. Import KML, KMZ, GPX and GeoJSON files, overlay your own images, and export to PDF, CSV, KML, DXF and more. See importing files and exporting.
  • Price the work. Give shapes products with prices, and the app calculates an estimate from what you measure. See products and estimates.
  • Share and embed. Share a project with a link or with named people, embed a map in your website, and let visitors measure and ask you for an estimate. See sharing projects, embedding and Open Guest.
  • Connect other software. On the Open Guest and Enterprise plans, developers can work with projects through the REST API; on Enterprise they can also embed maps in their own websites. See API keys.

The map can be shown flat or in 3D, and a shape's area and lengths can also be read along the slope of a roof or a hillside. You can choose between Google Maps, Bing Maps, Mapbox and other imagery, including national mapping services in several countries. See moving around the map.

Who uses it#

Anyone who needs a measurement from a map rather than a tape: people who price work on land, roofs, fields and building sites, who plan fences, paving or planting, or who survey and compare plots. Teams use it together, with shared projects and, on the Enterprise plan, an organisation with roles, teams and territories. See organisation.

The two places you work in#

After you sign in you arrive on the dashboard. It is where you find and organise your projects, manage your products, your profile and your plan, and see what is new in the app. See the dashboard.

The dashboard Overview page, with recent projects and the plan card

When you open a project, the map editor fills the screen. It is where you search for a place, draw and measure, and share or export the result. See the map editor screen.

Plans#

What you can do depends on your plan. A new account starts with a free trial. Some features, such as Open Guest, the developer API and organisations, belong to particular plans. See plans.

Where to go next#

  1. Quick start: your first measurement, from signing in to sharing the result.
  2. Signing in: creating an account, Google sign-in and two-factor authentication.
  3. The map editor screen: every button of the map editor at a glance.
  4. Drawing polygons: everything about measuring an area.
