Estimates and quotes

Give shapes a product to price them from their measurements, then read the project's estimate, set its tax and print it as a quote for your client.

Once you have products, give each shape the product it stands for. Measure Map Online prices every shape from its area, its length or as one item, adds them up, and shows the project's estimate on the map. From there you can open the breakdown, set the tax and print a quote.

Give a shape a product#

  1. Open a project and click a polygon, polyline or spot to open its panel.
  2. Under Products, press Add product. The list of your products opens, each with its picture and its price. With more than five, type in the search box at its top to find one.
  3. Tick the product. Tick more to put several on the shape, then press Done.

The panel lists the shape's products, each with what it costs on this shape, and shows the shape's Estimate above them: what they add up to. When a polygon has one product priced by area and by length, it also shows the two parts: the area and the perimeter.

A shape can carry several products priced on the same measurements: a car park can be asphalt, a sealing coat and line paint. The first one in the list is the one the map draws the shape with, its colour or texture, and is marked On the map. Drag a product by to change the order, and press beside it to take it off the shape.

The Products part of the panel appears once your price list has at least one available product. The list offers only available products; a shape keeps its products if you hide or archive one later.

Price many shapes at once#

  1. Press  Geometries at the top of the map to open the list of shapes.
  2. Tick the shapes to price. See select several shapes.
  3. Press Edit.
  4. Under Assign product, add the products as above.

What you choose replaces the products of every shape you selected. When they had different products, the panel says so.

Price new shapes automatically#

Every new polygon and polyline you draw gets the project's default product. To choose it, press  Settings at the top of the map and pick the Default product under Products and estimates. A new project starts with your own default product: see your default product.

How each shape is priced#

  • Polygons are charged their area times the product's area price, plus their perimeter times its length price when it has one.
  • Polylines are charged their length times the product's length price. An area price does not apply to them.
  • Spots count as one item each. A spot is charged the product's price per spot, such as "Tree, planted" at 85 each. A product without one charges a spot its area price once, whatever its unit, and the spot's panel marks it No price per spot.
  • Holes in a polygon are never charged on their own.
  • A shape with several products is charged for each of them. Its price is their sum, with one total per currency.

Measurements are converted to the product's unit before they are priced: a field measured in square metres is charged per acre if the product is priced per acre. With a price by size, each shape is charged at the band its own size falls in. A seasonal price in force today replaces the normal price.

The estimate on the map#

When at least one shape has a product, the measurements box in the top-left corner of the map shows the project's Estimate: all its priced shapes added up, before tax. Click it (View breakdown) to open the breakdown.

If you do not see the box, press  Settings and check that Show total measurements box is on. See the measurements box.

To show a polygon's price on the map itself, open the polygon's panel and turn on Show price label. The price is added to the shape's label.

The breakdown#

The Estimate window has one line per product, the most expensive first: the area and the perimeter or length it covers, in the product's units, how many Shapes use it, and their Cost. Under the lines are the Subtotal and, when there is tax, the Tax and the Total.

The estimate window with three products, subtotal, tax and total

Below the table:

  • Tax / VAT is the project's tax rate. It applies to every product that does not have its own rate, and it is saved with the project. When the products carry different rates, the tax line shows no single percentage and a note says the quote mixes rates.
  • Client is the name printed on the quote. It is saved with the project.

Changing the rate updates the tax and the total at once. Only the project's members can change these two fields; visitors see the client's name.

A project whose products use more than one currency gets a subtotal for each currency: amounts are never converted.

Print a quote#

Press Print in the estimate window. The quote opens in a new browser tab, ready to print or to save as a PDF from the print dialog. It shows:

  • your company name, logo, address, phone, email and tax ID;
  • a reference, the date, the client and the project name;
  • the lines, subtotal, tax and total;
  • a note that quantities are measured from the map and are an estimate.

The company details come from your organisation's profile, or else from your billing details, or else from your profile. When there is no company name, the estimate window reminds you to add one: see your name, picture and details and edit the organisation profile.

Export the estimate#

  • CSV in the estimate window downloads the breakdown as a spreadsheet file, with each line's tax rate and tax.
  • The PDF and CSV exports of a project include the estimate when Estimate is ticked in their options.

Who sees the estimate#

Everyone who can open the project sees its prices and its estimate: members, visitors of a shared link, people viewing an embedded map and Open Guest visitors. Your cost prices are never sent to them.

On the Projects page, the list view shows each project's estimate with tax, and the project's overview shows it as the subtotal plus tax. The figure is updated whenever the project is edited.
