Cadastral parcels

Show official property boundaries on the map in over 60 countries, read a parcel's area, and turn it into a polygon you can measure.

The parcels layer draws the property boundaries that each country's land registry publishes, right on your map. Click a parcel to see its number and area, open the registry's own page for it, or turn it into a polygon in your project in one step.

Show the parcels#

  1. Open a project and zoom in on the place you want to see.
  2. Press the  Layers button on the map.
  3. Under Map data, turn on Parcels (Cadastre).

The flags under Available countries show where parcel data is available. Parcels appear once you are close enough: from zoom level 17 in most countries, and 18 in Spain and the United States. Zoom out further and the layer stays on but shows nothing until you zoom in again.

The switch is off each time you open the app, so turn it on again when you need parcels.

Read a parcel's details#

Click a parcel to open its details:

  • The parcel's reference, as the registry numbers it, with the country's flag. Press it, or next to it, to copy it.
  • Area and Perimeter, measured from the boundary on the map.
  • Official area, when the registry states one. It can differ from the measured area: the registry's figure is the legal one, the measured one follows the drawn boundary.
  • Details: everything else the registry records for the parcel, folded until you open it.
  • Photos of the place, where there are any: the façade from Spain's Catastro, street-side and bird's-eye views in the United States, and a Street View picture elsewhere.
  • Source: the registry the data comes from.

More info opens the registry's own page for the parcel, where the country offers one (Spain's Catastro, for example).

Turn a parcel into a polygon#

Press Generate polygon in a parcel's details. The parcel's boundary becomes a polygon in your project, named after the parcel, with its area and perimeter like any polygon you draw. A parcel in several parts becomes one polygon per part, numbered after the parcel, and the holes in a parcel become holes in its polygon.

The new polygon is locked, so a stray click does not move its corners. Unlock it to adjust it: see editing shapes. Its panel keeps the link to the parcel: a photo of it and, where the registry has a page for it, Cadastre info.

Where parcels are available#

Parcels are available across most of Europe, the United States, Canada and much of Latin America, and in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and more. In some countries the data covers the whole country; in others, only the regions or cities that publish it (for example, some Canadian provinces and Argentinian provinces). The flags in the Layers panel always show the current list.

In the United States, parcels cover all 50 states.

Parcel data belongs to each country's registry. It is shown as published, for reference: it is not a legal survey.
