Groups and selecting several shapes

Find shapes in the Geometries list, select several to edit, save or delete them together, organise them in named groups, and see totals by colour.

A project can hold hundreds of shapes. The  Geometries list shows them all, lets you select several to change at once, and sorts them into groups: named, coloured folders, such as one per building, owner or phase.

The Geometries list#

Press  Geometries in the top toolbar to list every shape and spot in the project. After the shape you are drawing, if any, come your groups, each with its colour and the number of shapes in it: click a group to open it. The shapes and spots in no group follow. Click a row to zoom the map to that shape, or press to open its panel.

At the top of the list, Create group makes a new group and opens the group view (see totals by colour). See the Geometries list for what each row shows and how to find a shape by name.

Select several shapes#

Tick the box on the left of a shape's row. The list switches to selecting: clicking a row now ticks or unticks it, and a bar at the top offers:

  • Select all (or Unselect all);
  • Edit: opens the selected shapes in one panel (below);
  • Group: puts them in a group (see add shapes to a group);
  • Export .mmp: downloads only these shapes as an .mmp file, which you can import into another project (see importing files);
  • Remove: deletes them all after you confirm, as one step that Undo brings back;
  • at the end of the bar (Cancel): ends the selection.

Under the list, a line says how many you have ticked and what they add up to: the Area and Perimeter of the areas, and the Length of the lines. Holes are left out.

Ticking a group's box selects every shape in it.

Edit several shapes at once#

Tick the shapes and press Edit. With a single shape ticked, its own panel opens. With several, the Selected geometries panel opens:

  • a small map with them all, how many there are, and their total perimeter and area;
  • their names: click one to open that shape's panel;
  • Remove, to delete them all;
  • Colours, Line width and Polygon transparency;
  • Show intermediate distances, Show pins, Show name, Show area, Show perimeter and Show label background;
  • Assign product, when you have products: the products you choose replace those of every selected shape;
  • the spot icon, when spots are selected;
  • all their pictures.

The switches start as the first selected shape has them. Whatever you change applies to every selected shape, as one step you can undo.

Create a group#

  1. Tick the shapes that belong together.
  2. Press Group, then Create group. To create an empty group, with nothing ticked, press Create group at the top of the list instead.
  3. In the Create geo group window, type a Group name (up to 40 characters) and, if you like, a Description. Click the colour swatch next to the name to choose the group's colour.
  4. Press Create.

The ticked shapes move into the new group. The group's colour marks it in the list, and its box on the map (below); it does not change the shapes' own colours.

Add shapes to a group, or take them out#

Tick the shapes, press Group, and pick:

  • a group's name, to move them into it (a shape is in one group at a time);
  • Create group, to make a new one for them;
  • Remove from group, to take them out of their group.

Work with a group#

Open a group in the list to see its description, its shapes and four buttons:

  •  Show group bounds draws a box around the group on the map, with its name, in its colour. Press again to hide it.
  •  Focus on group zooms the map to it.
  •  Edit group changes its name, description or colour.
  •  Delete group asks what to delete: Delete group & geometries, or Delete group only, which keeps the shapes, ungrouped.

Groups belong to the project, so everyone working on it sees the same groups. You can also clear the map group by group: see clear the map.

Totals by colour: the group view#

Press at the top of the list to open the  Group View. It sorts the shapes by colour, whether or not they are in groups:

  • at the top, the Total area and Total perimeter of the project's areas and, when it has lines, their total Distance;
  • one card per colour: the fill colour of areas, the line colour of lines. An area card shows how many areas have that colour, with their total area and perimeter; a line card, how many lines, with their total length. Areas come first, then lines, the biggest first;
  • spots, one card per icon, with how many there are.

Open a card to list its shapes, and click one to zoom the map to it.
