Open Guest

Let your website's visitors measure their own job without an account, see its price as they draw, and send you a request for an estimate.

Open Guest turns your website into a place where customers measure their own job. A visitor opens your guest link, gets a project of their own, draws their lawn, roof or driveway on the map and sees its price as they go. When they are done they press Request an estimate, and you get their details together with their measurements.

How it works#

  1. You put your guest link on your website, as a button or as a map inside a page.
  2. A visitor opens it. A new project is made for them, with no account and nothing to fill in.
  3. They draw on the map. Every area and line gets your default product, so the price shows as they draw.
  4. They press Request an estimate and leave their name, email, phone and a message.
  5. You get a notification and an email, and the project on your Projects page is marked Estimate request.

Set your prices first#

Visitors see prices only for shapes that have a product. Before you publish your link:

  1. Add your products on the Products page.
  2. Make the one visitors will draw most your default: > Set as default.

New guest projects start with your default product, and every area and line a visitor draws gets it. Visitors see prices and the estimate; they never see your cost prices.

Create your guest link#

  1. In the dashboard, press Developer, then Guest link.
  2. Press Create guest link.

Your link appears, with to copy it and to try it. You have one guest link, and it stays the same until you replace it.

The Guest link section with the link, the switch, the folder and the website code
  • Accept new visitors: turn it off to pause the link. Visitors are told you are not taking new projects right now, and nothing is billed.
  • Save guest projects in: the folder guest projects go into. Choose one of your own folders; if you have shared it with colleagues, they get the guest projects too (see sharing folders).
  • Replace link: gives you a new link. The old one stops working at once, everywhere you have put it.

Put it on your website#

Under Put it on your website, copy the code that suits your site and paste it into your page's HTML:

  • As a link or button: a link that opens the map in a new tab.
  • Embedded in a page: the map inside your page, so visitors measure and ask for their estimate without leaving your site.

Most website builders have a block for custom HTML where the code goes. You can also send the link itself by email or message.

What your visitors see#

A visitor who opens your link sees "Setting up your map" for a moment, then the map, in a project of their own. They draw with the same tools as you: see drawing polygons. Comments are on in guest projects, so they can also leave notes on the map: see comments.

When they are ready, they press Request an estimate at the bottom of the map and fill in:

  • Name and Email (required);
  • Phone (optional) and Message (optional).

They press Send request and get an email confirming the request reached you. The button then reads Estimate requested. They can send it again to correct their details, after a couple of minutes.

The Request an estimate window with name, email, phone and message

A visitor who comes back to your link on the same device within 60 days is asked whether to Continue my project or Start a new project, so a returning customer does not start (and cost you) a new project by accident.

If the link cannot give them a project, they see why instead of the map: the link was replaced, it is paused, your plan is not active or your budget limit is reached ("Not available right now"), or too many visitors are starting projects at once. A link starts at most 20 new projects a minute.

Receive estimate requests#

When a visitor asks for an estimate:

  • you get a notification in the app, and an email whose reply goes straight to the visitor. The email follows your New quote requests setting: see notifications;
  • the project shows Estimate request on the Projects page and in your recent projects on the Overview;
  • the visitor's name becomes the project's client on the quote, unless you have already set one.

Open the project's Overview to see the Guest details: when they asked, their name, email, phone and message. Click the email address to start a reply. Then open the project, check the measurements, and print the quote.

If your plan has lapsed when a visitor asks, the request is still saved on the project, and you get an email saying a customer asked.

Usage and budget#

Each project a visitor starts from your link is billed. In the dashboard, Subscription > Usage & budget shows how many guest projects visitors started this period and your bill so far. There you can also ask for an email when the bill reaches an amount, and set a limit after which new visitors are told you are not taking projects. See usage and budget.

Only new projects count. A visitor going back to their project, or you working on it, costs nothing more.

Other ways in#

  • One project for everyone: in a project's share settings, the Open Guest access level lets anyone with that project's link measure in it, without an account. Everyone who opens it works in the same project, so use your guest link for customers.
  • From your own website's code: the Open Guest API creates guest projects with the visitor's details already filled in. See API keys and the API reference.
