Your projects in other companies' maps

Let a company show your private projects in the maps on its website, view only, see where they are shown, and stop it at any time.

Some companies show their customers' projects in the maps on their own website, for example in a customer portal or a quote page. Once you authorize such a company, its maps can show your Private projects too:

  • all of them, including projects you create later;
  • view only: nobody can change them there;
  • with comments only when a project lets everyone comment;
  • never projects in your trash;
  • only on the websites the company's keys allow.

Everywhere else your projects stay private: their link opens nothing for anyone else, and no other website can show them. Projects you share as View only or Public show in any company's map without being authorized, since anyone may see them.

Authorizing costs nothing, and your projects show in the company's maps while your plan or trial is running. You see the company by its organisation, company or website name, never by an email address. The company sees your name and email address in its list of the accounts it may show.

Authorize from the map#

When a company's map shows one of your private projects, it says This project is private and offers two ways to show it.

The map on a company's web page saying the project is private, with the buttons to authorize the company or open the project
  1. Press Authorize with the company's name. Measure Map Online opens in a new tab, on Profile & account > Authorized developers. Sign in with the account that owns the project, if you aren't already.
  2. A dialog asks you to confirm. It lists the company's websites under Their websites and the project you came from under Your project.
  3. Press Authorize.

Reload the company's page: the map now shows the project.

The other way, Open the project, opens the project in a new tab so you can share just that one as View only or Public in its share settings. Anyone can then see it, there and through its link.

Answer a request#

A company can also ask you by email. You get the email and a notification, and the request waits on Authorized developers under Waiting for your answer, with the company's websites and the day it asked. Press Approve or Decline. The company is told your answer, and can ask again a week later at the earliest.

See who can show your projects, and stop it#

In the dashboard, choose Profile & account, then the Authorized developers tab. Under Authorized, each company shows:

  • Their websites: where its maps may show your projects;
  • Authorized on;
  • Last shown: when one of your private projects was last shown, and on which website.

To end it, press Stop sharing and confirm. The company's maps say This project is private again straight away. You can authorize it again at any time. Each change is recorded in your activity log.

When authorizing doesn't work#

The dialog says what stopped it:

  • This project belongs to another account. Sign in with the account that owns it, then choose “Authorize” in the map again.
  • This project doesn't exist any more, or it's in your trash.
  • This account can't show maps on websites: it needs an Enterprise plan.
  • That's your own account. Your own private projects never show in your own maps: share them as View only.
  • Too many attempts. Try again in an hour.

In an organisation#

You authorize for the projects you created yourself. In an organisation, each member decides for their own projects. An organisation's projects show only while its plan is running, and a person's projects only while theirs is, as everywhere else: see when the map shows a message.
