Pictures

Attach site photos to polygons, lines, corners and spots, see them all in the Pictures Gallery, and include them in your PDF reports.

Pictures pin site photos to the exact place they belong: a photo of a damaged roof on the roof's polygon, a close-up of a boundary stone on its corner, a shot of a manhole on its spot. Everyone who opens the project sees them, and the PDF report can include them.

Attach a picture#

You can attach pictures to a polygon, a polyline, a single corner (vertex) of a shape, or a spot.

  1. Open its panel: click the shape or its label on the map, click the corner's pin, or click the spot.
  2. Press Attach picture.
  3. Choose a PNG or JPEG picture.

When the upload finishes, the app says Photo uploaded and the picture appears in the panel. Repeat to add more: each press adds one picture.

You can also add pictures while you create a spot: in the Create spot window, press Attach photo under Photos. See place a spot.

Attaching and removing pictures needs permission to edit the project.

Limits and errors#

  • Each picture can be up to 10 MB. A larger one is refused with Picture size cannot exceed 10MB.
  • Only PNG and JPEG pictures can be attached. A file that cannot be opened as a picture is refused with Error processing picture. Save it as JPEG first.
  • If the upload fails, the app says Error uploading picture. Please try again.

Pictures are stored as you send them, at full size.

See pictures on the map#

Shapes, corners and spots with pictures carry a small badge on the map, with how many pictures they have: on the pin of a corner or spot, and in the name label of a polygon or polyline. The label shows when the shape is locked and its labels are on.

Open the panel to see the pictures as thumbnails. A polygon's panel shows them under Photos: its own pictures, then the pictures of each of its corners, each under the corner's name.

To see every picture in the project in one place, open  Menu in the top toolbar and press Pictures gallery.

The gallery groups the pictures by the polygon, polyline, spot or corner they belong to, with how many each has; a corner is listed with its shape's name. Press a name to open its panel and zoom the map to it.

The menu, and with it the gallery, is there for signed-in people who can edit the project.

View a picture#

Click a thumbnail to open it in the Photos viewer:

  • Point at the picture to see a magnified circle under the pointer, and scroll to zoom.
  • Use the arrows, or the strip of thumbnails at the bottom, to move to the next or previous picture. Opened from the gallery, the viewer steps through all the pictures in the project; opened from a panel, through that shape's pictures.
  • Click the picture to open the original in a new browser tab, where you can save it.
  • Press Close to go back.

Remove a picture#

  1. In the panel or the gallery, press on the picture's thumbnail.
  2. Confirm with Yes.

Removing a picture is not a step in the project's history: undo does not bring it back. Attach it again if you removed it by mistake.

Pictures in reports and exports#

The PDF report includes the pictures of every shape, corner and spot when Images is on, up to 12 for each, in the size chosen under Picture size. The .mmp file keeps the links to all the pictures; importing it copies them into the project. See exporting.

Who can see pictures#

Anyone who can open the project can open a shape's panel and see its pictures, including people you share a view-only link with. Only people who can edit the project can attach or remove them. See sharing projects.
