The Layers panel
Turn map data such as parcels and building outlines on and off, and open, add or delete the layers that belong to your project.
The Layers panel gathers everything that sits over the map without being one of your shapes: official data the map can show, such as property boundaries, and the layers you add to a project, such as a site plan, a drone map or the reference data from an imported file.
Press the Layers button on the right side of the map to open it. Press it again, or click anywhere outside, to close it. Until you first open it, a red dot on the button marks it as new.
Map data#
Under Map data, two switches draw public data over the map. Press the switch or the picture next to it. These switches are only there when you can edit the project, and they are off each time you open the app.
- Parcels (Cadastre): the property boundaries from each country's land registry, which you can click to read and turn into polygons. The flags under Available countries show where they exist. See cadastral parcels.
- Building overlays: the outlines of buildings, drawn as a picture over the imagery. They come from Spain's Catastro, so they show in Spain only, from zoom level 17. They are for reference: you cannot click them.
Your layers#
Your layers lists the layers that belong to the project, with how many there are. Everyone who opens the project sees these layers on the map. Each row shows the layer's name and its kind:
| Kind | What it is | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Image overlay | A picture (a plan, a drawing, a drone photo) placed over the map | Image overlays |
| MBTiles map | A tiled map from an MBTiles file, such as a drone survey | Image overlays |
| Reference layer | Part of a large imported file (KML, KMZ, GeoJSON or GPX) kept for reference, with how many features it holds | Importing files |
When the project has no layers yet, the panel says No layers yet.
Open a layer#
Press a layer's row. The map zooms to the layer and its panel opens. There you can rename the layer, make it see-through with Transparency, or remove it. An image overlay's panel also sets its position: see image overlays.
You can also open an image overlay or an MBTiles map by clicking it on the map, when you are not drawing. The features of a reference layer answer a click on the map with their own details: see reference layers.
Delete a layer#
- Press next to the layer.
- Confirm with Delete.
The layer disappears from the map for everyone. If you deleted it by mistake, press Undo in the bottom toolbar: deleting a layer is a step in the project's history like any other.
Only people who can edit the project can delete layers.
Add a layer#
At the bottom of the panel, two buttons add a layer to the project:
- Add image overlay: choose a PNG or JPEG picture, then place it on the map with two clicks. See image overlays.
- Add MBTiles overlay: choose an
.mbtilesfile. It is placed where its own data says. See MBTiles overlays.
Reference layers are not added here: they come from importing a large file. See importing files.
