Colours, lines and labels
Change a shape's line colour and style, its width, fill and transparency, choose what its label shows, and set the style new shapes start with.
Every polygon and line has its own colours, line style and label. Use them to tell things apart at a glance: one colour per crop, per material or per phase of work. You change one shape in its panel, several at once from the Geometries list, and the style new shapes start with in the settings.
Style one shape#
Click the shape to open its panel, and go down to Colours:
- Press Line style to open the colour picker for the outline, next to the line styles. Pick a colour from the row of preset colours, or any colour in the picker, and choose a style: solid, dashed, dotted, solid with white dashes, solid with white dots, or dash-dot.
- Press Fill colour to choose the colour inside an area. Lines have no fill.
Press the same button again to close its picker.
Under Appearance:
- Line width sets how thick the outline is, from 0 to 10.
- Polygon transparency, for areas, goes from 0 (a solid fill) to 10 (no fill at all). A shape with no fill is selected by clicking its outline or its label.
Changes show on the map straight away and are saved for everyone on the project. Each change can be undone.
Choose what the label shows#
A locked shape has a label at its centre. Under Visibility in its panel:
- Show name, Show area and Show perimeter choose what the label says. With all three off, there is no label.
- Show label background writes the label on a background, or as plain text over the map.
- Show price label adds the price, when the shape has a product: see estimates.
- Show intermediate distances writes the length of each side at its middle. They show once the shape is big enough on screen: zoomed out, a small shape keeps only its label, and they come back as you zoom in.
- Show pins shows the shape's corner points.
A new polygon's label starts with its name and area, and a new line's with its name and length. After that, the name, area, perimeter and background you choose here are what your next shapes start with, in this browser.
Drag a label to move it somewhere clearer; on a touch screen, touch and hold it first. Labels cannot be dragged while the crosshair is on. See move a label.
Style several shapes at once#
Tick the shapes in the Geometries list and press Edit. The panel that opens has the same colours, width, transparency and label switches, and applies them to every shape you picked. See editing several shapes.
Defaults for new shapes#
Press Settings in the top toolbar. Three cards set how shapes look:
- Default polygon style: the line colour and style, fill colour, line width and fill transparency of the shapes you draw from now on, and of the one you are drawing. Shapes you have already locked keep their own style.
- Polygon style: the size of labels, side lengths and pins on every shape, and whether new shapes show their side lengths.
- Spot style: the size of every spot's name and icon.
These settings are saved with your account, so they follow you into every project and onto other devices. Other people keep their own. See default polygon style for each option.
Hide shapes and labels#
The Show/Hide elements menu in the bottom toolbar hides whole kinds of thing on your screen, such as Polygons, Polygon labels or Intermediate distances, without changing the shapes. See display options.
