Drawing and measuring

Polygons for areas, lines for distances, points and spots, and editing, styling, grouping, buffers and grids.

  1. Drawing polygonsMeasure an area by outlining it on the map, then read its area and perimeter, name it, describe it and cut holes in it.
  2. Measuring distances with polylinesDraw a line on the map to measure a distance or a route, with the length of every segment, the total and the ground's height along it.
  3. Points and spotsRead and edit the corner points of your shapes, and mark single places on the map with spots, icons that carry a name, a description, photos and coordinates.
  4. Editing shapesUnlock a shape to change it; move, add and delete corners; type exact lengths; rotate, duplicate, split, join and subtract shapes; undo mistakes and clear the map.
  5. Colours, lines and labelsChange a shape's line colour and style, its width, fill and transparency, choose what its label shows, and set the style new shapes start with.
  6. Groups and selecting several shapesFind shapes in the Geometries list, select several to edit, save or delete them together, organise them in named groups, and see totals by colour.
  7. BuffersDraw a zone at a set distance around a polygon, inside it or along a line, such as a safety perimeter, a setback or a corridor, and measure it. The buffer follows its shape when you edit it.
  8. GridsLay a grid of cells over an area to count how many tiles, panels, plots or plants fit, and move and turn it on the map until the most fit.
