Choose what the map shows, from shapes, pins and labels to spots and comments, and find any shape in the Geometries list.

A project with many shapes can hide the very imagery you are measuring. You can choose what the map shows for the whole project at once, or shape by shape, and find any shape by name in the  Geometries list.

Show or hide across the whole map#

Press  Show/Hide elements at the left end of the bottom toolbar. A list of switches opens:

The Show/Hide elements menu with its switches
Switch What it shows
Polygons The outlines and fills of every polygon and polyline. Their labels and pins have their own switches below.
Pins The pins at the points of shapes that show them.
Polygon labels The label of each shape, with its name, area or length.
Intermediate distances The length of each side, written along it.
Description labels The descriptions you chose to show on the map for points.
Hole labels The labels of holes cut into polygons.
Spot The spots.
Spot labels The names under the spots.
Comments The comment markers. See comments.

The switches only change what you see, on this browser: the project, and what other people see in it, stay as they are. They stay as you left them the next time you open any project.

If you can only view a project, the bottom toolbar is not shown, and the same menu opens from a single button at the bottom left.

Choose what each shape shows#

Each shape also decides for itself what it shows. Click a shape to open its panel: under Visibility, switches choose what its label says (its name, area, perimeter and price), whether the label has a background, and whether the shape shows its side lengths and its pins. See choose what the label shows.

The Visibility section of a polygon's panel

These choices are saved with the shape, so everyone who opens the project sees them. The switches in  Show/Hide elements still hide them from your own view.

The label of a shape appears once the shape is locked. See finish and lock the polygon.

Move a label#

If a label covers something, drag it to another place. On a touch screen, press and hold the label for half a second, then drag it. A shape's label and a point's description keep their new place.

Label size and decimals#

The size of the labels, of the side lengths and of the pins, and whether side lengths show decimals, are set for all your projects in settings.

The Geometries list#

The  Geometries button in the top toolbar opens a list of every polygon, polyline and spot in the project. The shape you are drawing, if any, is at the top as Current polygon. Your groups come next, each with its colour, the number of shapes in it and its name; then the shapes and spots that are in no group, sorted by name.

The Geometries list with groups, shapes and their areas and perimeters

Each row shows a small drawing of the shape (or the spot's icon), its name and its figures: for a polygon its area (a:, in red) and perimeter (p:, in blue), for a polyline its length (d:). A small icon shows when it has a description or pictures.

  • Click a row to close the list and zoom the map to that shape.
  • Press on a row to open the shape's panel.

At the top of the list:

  •  Focus on all geometries zooms the map to show every shape.
  • opens the group view, which adds up the shapes, area and perimeter for each colour. See totals by colour.
  • Create group starts a new group, if you can edit the project.
  •  Search list opens a box to find shapes by name.

If the project is empty, the list says Nothing yet.

Find a shape by name#

Press  Search list and type part of a name. The list keeps the shapes and groups whose names contain what you typed; a group whose name matches is kept whole. Press to clear the box, and again to close it.

Groups in the list#

Each group is a section with a coloured edge. Press it to open or close it. Inside, above its shapes, are buttons to frame the group on the map, zoom to it, edit it and delete it. See work with a group.

Select several shapes#

Tick the box at the start of a row to select a shape, or a group's box to select all of its shapes. While shapes are selected, clicking a row ticks or unticks it instead of zooming to it, and a bar at the top of the list lets you edit, group, save or delete the selection together. Under the list, a line says how many shapes are selected and adds up their Area, Perimeter and, for polylines, Length.
