Organising projects

Keep projects in folders, rename, move, copy and join them, reuse a setup as a template, and delete or restore projects from the trash.

As projects pile up, folders keep them in order, templates save you setting up the same kind of job again, and the trash keeps a deleted project recoverable. Everything here happens on the Projects page, mostly from a project's menu.

Folders#

To create a folder, press the round button in the bottom-right corner, choose Folder, type its Folder name and press Save. It is created inside the folder you are in, so folders can hold other folders.

Click a folder to open it. The path at the top of the page (Projects › folder › subfolder) takes you back up a level. Deeper down it shows only the top, the folder above and the one you are in, with the folders in between behind . Once you have folders, (Show folder tree) opens a panel with all of them as a tree; All projects at its top leaves every folder.

A folder's menu has Rename,  Share, Move and Remove. A folder shared with others shows instead of : see sharing folders.

Move projects and folders#

  1. Open the project's (or folder's) menu and choose Move.
  2. In Move to, click a folder to go into it, or to go up a level.
  3. Press Move here.

On a computer you can also drag a project or folder onto a folder, or onto a name in the folder path at the top of the page (Projects is the top level).

Moving a folder moves everything in it. Moving into a shared folder shares the project with the folder's members; see sharing folders.

Rename a project#

Choose Rename in the project's menu, change its Project title or Description, and press Save.

Duplicate a project#

Duplicate asks for a name, then makes a full copy of the project in the same folder: its shapes, photos, groups, comments and map layers, its access level, whether comments are on, its default product and its tax rate. The copy is yours, with its own copies of the photos and layer files, so deleting the original takes nothing from it. It starts with no other members, apart from the members of a shared folder it is in.

Templates#

A template is a whole project kept as a starting point: its shapes, spots, groups, photos, comments and map layers, with its access level, comment setting, default product and tax rate. Use one when every job starts the same way.

  • To make one, choose Save as template in a project's menu, name it and press Save. A full copy goes to your templates; the project itself stays as it is.
  • To see your templates, choose Templates in the menu at the top of the page.
  • To start a project from one, press the round button, choose New project from a template and pick the template, or choose New project from this in the template's menu. Name the new project and press Save. It is made in the folder you are in.
  • Move back to projects turns a template back into a normal project. Only the project's owner can do this.

Templates stay out of your project list until you open Templates. Press Back to projects to return.

Work with several projects at once#

  1. Open the menu at the top of the page and choose Select projects.
  2. Click the projects you want. A bar at the bottom counts them.
  3. Choose what to do:
    • Move moves them all to one folder.
    • Spreadsheet (CSV) downloads a spreadsheet listing them: name, dates, number of polygons and spots, area, estimate, folder and link.
    • Delete moves them to the trash, after you confirm. Only your own projects go; projects shared with you are left alone.
    • Join combines them into a new project (below).

The selection stays while you search, so you can pick projects from several searches and act on them all at once. Press Cancel to stop selecting.

Join projects#

Joining makes one new project out of several: select at least two projects, press Join, type the new project's Project title and press Create.

The new project, in the folder you are in, gets a copy of every polygon, polyline and spot from the projects you picked. Their groups, map layers and comments are not copied, and the original projects stay as they were.

Export all your projects#

Export projects in the menu at the top of the page downloads every project as an .mmp file, together in a ZIP file. It can take a while with many projects. To export one project in other formats, open it and see exporting.

Delete a project#

Choose Remove in your project's menu. The project goes to the trash, and a message offers  Undo for a few seconds.

To get it back later:

  1. Open the menu at the top of the page and choose Trash.
  2. Press Restore on the project, or choose it in the project's menu.

The trash lists the projects you deleted from every folder. In it, projects are greyed out and marked Trash, and each one says when it was deleted. They stay there until you restore them or delete them for good with  Delete permanently. A project in the trash still opens, view only, until you restore it. To restore or delete several at once, choose Select projects in the menu and pick them: the bar at the bottom offers both.

The trash: greyed-out projects with Restore on each card, and a project's menu open with Restore and Delete permanently

Only a project's owner can restore it or delete it permanently. A project someone else deleted only offers Remove, which takes it off your list.

Delete a folder#

Choose Remove in your folder's menu. The message says how many of your projects are in it and in its subfolders; press Delete to confirm. The folder and the subfolders you made in it are deleted, and your projects inside them go to the trash. Restored, they come back at the top level of your projects. Projects other people made are left as they are.

A folder someone else shared with you offers Remove too: it only takes the folder off your list.

Transfer projects to another member#

In an Enterprise organisation, the owner and Admins can hand a member's projects and folders to someone else, for example when the member leaves, with Transfer projects on the Users page. See transfer a member's projects.
